Environmental Management
PanAust is committed to best practice in environmental management as well as to continuous improvement of its environmental management procedures and systems. Guidelines and procedures regarding the Company's operations in Laos are included in its Environmental and Social Management and Monitoring Plan (ESMMP), lodged with the Government of Laos. The ESMMP is updated each year to reflect changes in the Company's operations and adjustments to its environmental management systems.
Environmental Policy
It is recognised that environmental excellence is an integral component of any efficient, successful and sustainable business. As such, the Company is committed to the pursuit of 'best practice' in environmental management and to achieving the highest standards of environmental performance.
PanAust's commitment to responsible environmental management reflects its sensitivity to the needs and expectations of stakeholders. Through its environmental policies, the Company aims to promote a culture of environmental and social responsibility amongst its employees and contractors.
To achieve this, PanAust is committed to:
- an environmental management system which includes the use of procedures for corrective and preventative actions to minimise the environmental risk associated with the Company’s activities;
- practices that help to protect and preserve the environment in those areas in which the Company operates;
- including environmental issues as key factors in Company decision making for all aspects of the business, including exploration, mine planning, development, operation and closure;
- ongoing development and maintenance of an environmental management system based commitment to the pursuit of best practice and continuous improvement;
- performing tasks and achieving objectives in such manner so as to minimise the disruption of the natural environment;
- minimising the release of emissions, effluents and waste streams;
- training Company employees, contractors and transport providers in environmentally responsible practices and environmental risk avoidance strategies as well as promoting a Company-wide awareness of environmental issues;
- conforming to the laws and legislative instruments applicable to the localities in which the Company operates at all times, including those relating to land access and environmental protection;
- giving due consideration to alternatives which minimise environmental impacts when purchasing and using consumable products;
- minimising the consumption of water, energy and consumables and the production of greenhouse gas emissions; and
- recycling and reusing water and consumables as much as possible and encouraging personnel to actively participate in Company recycling schemes.
The Company expects management and supervisors to lead by example, and ensure that an operational commitment to environmentally sound practices is maintained. The Company is committed to regular reporting on its environmental performance and to have accurate and transparent communications with statutory bodies, the local communities within which its operations are located and with all other stakeholders.
