Health and Safety
PanAust is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all its stakeholders including employees, contractors, customers, suppliers, visitors and the local community. The Company's Sustainability Policy recognises that PanAust has a duty of care to provide a safe working environment for all of its employees, whether located in Laos, Thailand or Australia. Personal accountability and collective responsibility for maintaining a high standard of health and safety within the workplace are encouraged. It is PanAust’s belief that through leadership, consultation and training, injuries and illness are preventable and that no job is so important that it cannot be performed safely.
A health and safety training program has been developed and safety systems have been implemented throughout the Company’s work locations. These systems include incident reporting, accident prevention strategies through risk assessment, emergency response procedures and measures to maintain health and hygiene standards. A reporting system is in place to record and investigate accidents and near-miss incidents. In these reports, it is mandatory to state how accidents could have been prevented and to propose steps to reduce the risk of a re-occurrence.
Management and employee commitment to health and safety issues are encouraged through regular focused safety training, “toolbox” talks and meetings. Safety coordinators provide daily updates at management meetings detailing the performance relating to safety initiatives. These safety coordinators are also responsible for the continual development of safety systems and employee training programs, to ensure that the Company’s operations are conducted in accordance with international safety standards.
