Sustainable Leadership

In July 2009, PanAust released its third Sustainability Report. Sustainability reporting is part of our long-term commitment to incorporate social, economic and environmental risks and benefits into our management approach and business decision making.

In 2008, a Sustainability Committee was established and comprises two independent and non-executive directors: Committee Chairman, Geoff Handley and Geoff Billard.

As an underlying principle, the Company's sustainability performance and governance requires an emphasis on open, deliberate approaches to planning and management of sustainable activities.

A Sustainability Committee Charter was ratified in August 2008 and sets out the responsibilities and functions fo the Committee.

We endeavour to ensure that our activities are financially profitable, technically appropriate, environmentally sound and socially responsible. Our approach to sustainability is derived from a strong ethical foundation based on a commitment to the highest standards of corporate governance, financial management and technical expertise as well as a range of policies relating to health and safety, the environment, community and employee relations, including the development and training of national staff in the respective countries where we operate.

We believe that having the highest possible standards across all these areas is integral to the goal of maximising the value of our assets, as it is recognised that this objective can only be achieved if we have successful relationships with our stakeholders. As a result, we will continue to pursue strong links with our stakeholders and appreciate the role that they have to play in the ongoing success of the Company.

In order to meet its responsibilities to stakeholders, PanAust aims to achieve sustainable development through the integration of ethically-based economic progress, effective environmental management and responsible social development.
